The project has several objectives.Among them we can highlight the following: obtaining the genomes of the four South American camelid species, the development and validation of the Alpaca SNP50BeadChip, the study of genetic diversity among alpaca breeds and llama types, the detection of selection footprints in the Huacaya and Suri breeds of alpacas and the Chaq'u and K'ara types, as well as the knowledge of the domestication process in these domestic species. A total of 24 genomes have been sequenced and we intend to analyze a population of 500 alpacas to validate the informative SNPs.
