Eight stratigraphic pollen samples were collected from Recon John
Shelter (5PE648), located along the bank of Turkey Creek a tributary to the
Arkansas river. A late Archaic/Woodland occupation postulated at this cave,
where the cultural deposits are deep. Ceramics were recovered from the upper
levels, while projectile points were recovered throughout the deposits.
Pollen analysis was conducted on the samples in an effort to address both
paleoenvironmental conditions and evidence of subsistence.
