THE INTERACTION OF TWIN-JET RADIO SOURCES WITH THEIR ENVIRONMENTS

The structure of lowpower radio galaxies is thought to be determined largely byinteractions with the group atmosphere in which these objects typically reside.Detailed observations of these atmospheres can answer longstanding questionsabout physical conditions in radio galaxies, their dynamics and evolution. OurXMM GO observations of two such objects provide strong evidence for theinfluence of environment on radiolobe structure, illustrating that XMM.s highsensitivity to largescale Xray emission is ideally suited to this work. Wepropose to continue this observational programme by observing three morewellstudied twinjet sources, enlarging our sample to include examples of alltypical FRI radiolobe morphologies. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
