Knowledge of workers of the construction industry about HIV

HIV transmission may be related to biological factors inherent to the infection and socioeconomic, cultural and behavioral aspects that make some segments of the population more vulnerable, such as construction workers. Objective: evaluate the knowledge of workers in the construction industry about infection by HIV and associated factors. Materials and methods: cross-sectional, analytical study, including 381 construction workers, in the cities of João Pessoa, Cabedelo, and Santa Rita, in the State of Paraíba, Brazil, performed through interviews, using a data collection instrument with social demographic variables and the HIV Knowledge Questionnaire. It was observed that the study participants presented, from the applied knowledge instrument, an average of 63.3% of correct answers, with higher rates (70.0%), in relation to knowledge about the forms of transmission and prevention, also highlighting higher percentages among those who studied for 12 years or more.
