Tinea nigra is an uncommon superficial phaeohyphomycosis mainly caused by Hortaea werneckii. Hortaea werneckii strain TW-2017-NCK0655 here was recovered from skin scrapings of tinea nigra on the palm of a 23-year-old Taiwanese man who resided in Taiwan. The lesion resolved with topical sertaconazole (an imidazole drug) cream.
