Cross-Frontier Shopping 1996: Danish People

In the late 1980s all were aware of the fact that there was a considerable cross-frontier shopping cross the Danish- German land border and that it especially was the Danes who travelled to the German shops to buy goods like petrol, beers, wine and cigarettes. Since then a higher rate of duty has made the shopping less profitable. The single market has on the other hand allowed shopping of almost unlimited quantities of beers and wine. It is obvious in which direction these changes will affect the size of the cross-frontier shopping but concrete knowledge has until now been a lack. #The Danish Institute of Border Region Studies carried out the first cross-frontier shopping survey in 1977 and has since then repeated the surveys intermittently. The latest survey from 1991 could not contribute knowledge about the single market conditions. Therefore it was decide to carry out another survey in November 1996
