Rockweed (Ascophyllum nodosum, or Asco) is a common Maine intertidal alga. Asco offers habitat to invertebrates, fish, and birds and has been harvested commercially in Maine since the 1970s. Long-term management of this marine algae is in flux and we need data to ensure that Asco is there for itself, the organisms that live on it, and harvesters. Along the coast of Maine there is one big question essential for management--how much Asco is there?

And that's where this project comes in! Help us collect data on the state-wide biomass of Asco.
