Garden asparagus (Asparagus officinalis) is a highly valuable vegetable crop of great commercial and nutritional interest, and it also has great value in studying plant sex determination and differentiation mechanisms. Performing transcriptome sequencing and gaining a global view of the sex-biased genes in the male and female flower buds could give new insights into molecular mechanisms of plant sex determination and differentiation and for further study of this species. This project performs de novo transcriptome sequencing of flower buds from male and female plants, aiming to discover genes related sex determination and sex differentiation in asparagus.
