NRS-15627 | Correspondence of the office and systems manager

This series is largely composed of correspondence relating to policy matters for freight services and charges. When the series was created it contained correspondence relating to mostly administrative matters but these were culled leaving files containing policy related decisions. Included is correspondence on the possible closure of rail lines; rationalisation of freight services; liaison with committees; notes and/or minutes of meetings, including railway conferences; and a tender procedures manual issued in August 1979. Other correspondence relates to: complaints about service; preparation for visits by dignitaries; claims for refunds of charges; and requests for response to proposed seminars and training courses. Also included are requests for response to applications for the lease of railway property, and for construction or demolition on railway property.The substantive material on the files sometimes predates the registration of the file indicating that some files may have been 'top numbered' or uncontrolled previous to the creation of the series. Some correspondence files contain copies of relevant documents of an earlier date.The file numbers may be identified from 'Index to systems and office manager's correspondence', 1979- 1980 (Series No. 15616) Custody HistoryFrom 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an ‘in house archives’ consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000. When the decision was made to close the ‘State Rail Archives’ the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection. It may have been viewed in the State Rail Archives as series R113 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.
