Pharmacological inhibition of NPY receptors illustrates dissociable features of experimental colitis in the mouse DSS model

7 days of 4% DSS most closely modeled the pathology of human IBD, with normalized rearing behavior potentially representing a tool for evaluating visceral pain-associated behaviors in this model. Colon gene expression profiling identified a distinct DSS-induced metasignature that significantly overlapped with what is observed in human IBD patients. The finding that two different NPY receptor antagonists exhibited dissociable efficacy profiles in this model highlights the benefit of including a variety of outcome measures in IBD efficacy studies to most fully evaluate the effects of potential therapeutic agents.
