Constructing the commuting backbone network dataset for the United States

This data product includes two commuting backbone network GIS datasets and two CSV files. 1.Commuter connection backbone network – A CSV file representing this backbone network, with each record containing the following attributes: origin_tract, dest_tract, commuter_count, CBSA, CBSA_type, x_lon, x_lat, y_lon, y_lat. In addition, a corresponding line shapefile is included to support direct visualization and analysis in GIS software. 2.Backbone road network – A line shapefile mapping primary road segments most likely used by commuters traveling along the identified commuter connection backbones. Each record includes the following attributes: commuter_count, CBSA, and CBSA_type, representing the estimated commuter traffic volume and geographic context for each backbone road segment. 3.CBSA-level network metrics – A CSV file is provided containing network-related metrics for both backbone networks within each CBSA. Each record includes the following attributes: CBSA, CBSA Type, Number of Nodes, Number of Edges, Average Degree, Network Density, Average Clustering Coefficient, Total Commuters, Assortativity, Reciprocity, Modularity, and Average Commuting Distance (in miles). Note that the Average Commuting Distance is derived from the backbone road network, while all other metrics correspond to the commuter connection backbone network.
