Dataset for "Extensive unreported non-plantation oil palm in Africa"

This repository contains supplementaery data to the manuscript titled "Extensive unreported non-plantation oil palm in Africa". The repository contains the following files: - Supplementary Data 1: 11,800 randomly sampled points used for calculating the oil palm area estimates. The attribute Class represents the category identified through visual interpretation of satellite images: 1) other land cover types, 2) plantation oil palm, and 3) non-plantation oil palm. The attribute SampleAreaType indicates the type of area where the point was sampled: 1) inhabited and 2) uninhabited areas within the potential distribution, 3) buffering area of the potential distribution, and 4) primary forest. - Supplementary Data 2: 175 Google Earth images paired with Google Street View showing oil palm and crop types that look similar to oil palm in sub-meter resolution satellite images. - Supplementary Data 3: 1,100 village boundaries randomly selected in West and Central Africa. The classes are the following: 0) No satellite data. The presence of non-plantation oil palm could not be determined, 1) non-plantation oil palm was not found, and 2) non-plantation oil palm was found in the sub-meter resolution satellite data. - Supplementary Data 4: Points depicting the locations where oil palm was found within the perimeter of the villages in West and Central Africa. - Supplementary Video 1: Video showing the sub-meter resolution satellite images in the points identified as plantation and non-plantation oil palm. The satellite images are the sub-meter resolution imagery displayed as the base layer in Google Earth © Google.
