Arizona Unemployment Insurance Administrative Records, 2018–2025 (Excluding 2020)

This dataset contains individual-level administrative records from the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) unemployment insurance (UI) program, covering claimants with initial claim dates between January 2018 and July 2025. Calendar year 2020 is excluded due to the unprecedented volume and complexity of pandemic-era UI activity, which precluded reliable extraction and de-duplication by the Department. Records were obtained via Arizona DES Public Records Request (Reference No. D000947-060625, filed June 6, 2025) for academic research examining the effects of UI policy changes on claimant outcomes and labor market transitions. Each record includes claim identification and spell characteristics (weekly benefit amount, maximum benefit amount, base period wages, weeks paid, exhaustion status, and disqualification information), earnings reported during the claim period, pre-claim employment history (reason for separation, NAICS and SOC codes, job tenure), demographic characteristics (age, gender, race/ethnicity, education level, veteran status, and disability status), geographic identifiers (county and ZIP code of residence and prior employment), and post-unemployment labor market outcomes (return-to-work date, post-claim quarterly wages, and industry and occupation of reemployment). Following privacy review, two variables were redacted to mitigate re-identification risk in sparsely populated areas of the state: exact birthdate (age is retained) and the final three digits of ZIP codes (county is retained). No other variables were withheld. The dataset spans seven calendar years (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025) and represents a comprehensive longitudinal record of UI program participation in Arizona, suitable for research on benefit generosity, exhaustion behavior, reemployment outcomes, labor market transitions, and policy evaluation.
