从生态系统多样性、物种多样性和遗传多样性三个层次，对指定范围内的森林、湿地、草原等生态系统种类、数量、面积与空间分布状况，陆生脊椎动物、维管束植物种类、分布以及国家重点保护动植物种、特有种等类群的种群数量、分布、生境、受威胁情况和保护现状，以及珍稀濒危物种遗传资源的种类、数量、保护现状等开展全面调查。

A comprehensive survey is conducted at three hierarchical levels: ecosystem diversity, species diversity, and genetic diversity. Within the designated scope, the survey covers the types, quantities, areas and spatial distribution of ecosystems such as forests, wetlands, grasslands; the species and distribution ranges of terrestrial vertebrates and vascular plants; the population sizes, distributions, habitats, threat statuses and conservation statuses of taxa including nationally protected key wild animals and plants, endemic species; as well as the types, quantities and conservation statuses of genetic resources of rare and endangered species.
