The Conceptual and Structural Intersections of Antonomasia, Metaphor, and Metonymy in Modern Linguistics

Abstract: This article explores the linguistic and cognitive nature of antonomasia, analyzing its structural and semantic boundaries with metaphor and metonymy. Traditionally relegated to a mere stylistic device, antonomasia is re-examined through the lens of cognitive linguistics as a complex conceptual mapping mechanism. The study investigates how proper names convert into common nouns (and vice versa) and maps the overlapping territories where antonomasia utilizes the similarity matrices of metaphor and the contiguity networks of metonymy.
