Attitudes towards the development of rural areas in the EU.<br>Topics: approval of considering the specific needs of rural areas by the EU in making public spending decisions; most important specific needs of rural areas in the own country; preferred authorities with regard to deciding on how to invest in rural areas: EU, national government, regional government, area receiving the investment; easiness of reaching the following places by public transport: nearest supermarket, doctor’s surgery, local post office, nearest large town or city; preferred services to be implemented in the own area: local bus services, intercity bus services, school bus services, local train services, intercity train services, car sharing, cycling paths; likelihood to do each of the following activities after the COVID-19 restrictions more or less compared to before the pandemic: work from home at least some of the time, consider moving to a more rural area, consider moving to a less rural area, visit rural areas for leisure purposes, use public transport; importance of each of the following problems in rural areas in the own country: rising temperatures or extreme weather events, reliance on fossil fuels, use of pesticides and other chemicals in farming, destruction of natural habitats or the loss of animals or plant species; awareness of EU actions aiming at tackling the aforementioned problems; attitude towards the following statements: respondent can influence decisions affecting the own local area, respondent would like to be more involved in decisions affecting the own local area; preferred ways of being involved: attend meetings or events organised in the local area, sign petitions, take part in citizen consultations, through social media feeds, contact to elected representatives, get involved in community-led projects, in another way. Demography: age; sex; nationality; age at end of education; occupation; professional position; type of community; own a mobile phone and fixed (landline) phone; household composition and household size; region. Additionally coded was: respondent ID; country; type of phone line; nation group; weighting factor.
