We have done a continental-scale soil sampling survey in China, involving agricultural ecosystems and natural ecosystems. With that, we successfully uncover the contribution of diversity of keystone soil viruses, whose important significantly exceed other diversity metrices (including diversity of overall community of individual microbial kingdom, diversity of interkingdom phylotypes and keystone phylotypes), in driving ecosystem multifunctionality.
