We report the first whole-genome sequence of a blaNDM-5-producing E. coli assigned as ST410-O8:H9 recovered from captive giant panda in China. These kinds of drug resistant bacteria may pose serious health risks for captive giant pandas. The E. coli DC71 genome sequence will be helpful to understand the genomic structure, its diversity, and molecular mechanism of bacteria to disseminate the resistant gene.
