Laser microdissection RNA sequencing on catshark kidney

Marine and euryhaline cartilaginous fishes have a complicated four-loop nephron comprised of many subdivided functional segments, in the kidney. This elaborate structure is considered to be important for the reabsorption of urea, but the function and regulation of the nephron are still largely unknown due to its configuration with many subdivided segments. To obtain the segment-specific gene expression profiles, we developed a new method of laser microdissection (LMD) followed by RNA sequencing using the kidney of cloudy catshark Scyliorhinus torazame in this study.
