Beneficial effect of topical application of Weissella cibaria on equine pastern dermatitis. 16S rRNA metagenome

The aim of the work was to verify the effect of the strain Weissella cibaria Biocenol 4/8D37 CCM 9015 stabilized on an alginite carrier on the skin microbiota of 12 Norik breed mares with eqine pastern dermatitis. Changes of the skin microbiota were monitored by clinical evaluation and changes of the skin microbial community by amplicon sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. The W. cibaria strain had a positive effect on the clinical picture of EPD during topical application: resulted in complete healing of the exudative lesions and prevented recurrences of the disease 6 months after its termination.
