The Ecology of Sminthurus Viridis(l.) (Collembola) 1952-1961 Processes Influencing Numbers In Pastures in Western Australia

The changes in the population of Sminthurus Viridis in pastures in Western Australia were observed for 9 years and for shorter periods in other sites. Population curves during the active season (normally April or May-October in both hemispheres) varied despite the apparent uniformity in the environment. This data described quantitatively the changes in numbers observed and the main factors for these changes, which include: weather, soil, food, predators, and behavioural aspects. \nLineage: Observation sites were selected within the agricultural areas of south-western Australia and samples were collected at 3-weekly intervals. Botanical composition of the pastures were observed, as well as climate temperature and rainfall were recorded to observe any effects on the eggs. Preference of soil type and pH levels were also noted.
