Our initial Parkes study of the 5.4-day eclipsing millisecond pulsar\r\n(MSP) J1417-4402 shows it to be the first system identified in the\r\nGalaxy on a standard evolutionary track that will end as a typical\r\nbinary MSP with a low-mass white dwarf companion. With the requested\r\ntiming observations we seek to characterize the late phase in the\r\nformation of a typical MSP binary, until now unobserved. In particular,\r\nwe aim to measure the pulsar spin-down luminosity, constrain the\r\norbital eccentricity, and seek gamma-ray pulsations.
