Catechin Attenuates cadmium-induced female reproductive toxicity via gut-systemic-reproductive axis

Cadmium (Cd) is an extremely dangerous heavy metal widely present in our environment. Catechins, a class of phenolic active substances extracted from natural plants such as tea, have been proven to have strong antioxidant activity and free radical scavenging ability. This study aimed to elucidate the potential mechanism of catechin alleviating Cd-induced female reproductive toxicity in mice. Twenty-four mice were randomly divided into four groups: control group, Cd group, Catechin group, and Cd + Catechin group. The results showed that catechins supplementation alleviated the adverse impact of Cd on antioxidant enzymes and sex hormones.
