The modern pollen database provides fundamental data for investigating the quantitative relationships between pollen, vegetation and climate, as well as conducting quantitative reconstructions of paleovegetation and paleoclimate. Asia has prominent regional differences in topography, climate and vegetation. While a series of important achievements have been made in modern pollen process studies at regional scales, there is still a lack of modern sporopollen datasets covering the entire continent. The authors compiled existing modern sporopollen data from prior studies and supplemented with modern sporopollen analyses conducted in some regions, and preliminarily constructed a modern sporopollen dataset covering most parts of Asia except South Asia. This dataset contains 9165 sampling sites and 245 pollen types, which are mostly classified at the family or genus level. It can be used for large spatial-scale paleovegetation and paleoclimate reconstruction studies, as well as reliability evaluation of vegetation and climate models.
