A single nucleotide change in the polC DNA polymerase III in Clostridium thermocellum is sufficient to create a hypermutator phenotype

We have identified a mutation in the polC gene which increases the mutation rate in Clostridium thermocellum. We demonstrated this by reintroducing this mutation and performing mutation accumulation experiments. The mutations were identified by whole-genome resequencing.
