McCord's box turtle is a critically endangered box turtle endemic to central Guangxi province, China. The species was described as recent as 1988 and only known from the pet trade and Chinese food markets. Almost 20 years later specimens were discovered in the wild. This species is being sequenced by John Bermingham in cooperation with the C. mccordi St. Louis Zoo (Missouri) breeding program.
