Synoptic dynamics of the tropical moist margin and its connection to the extratropics

This thesis examines the properties and physics of the “moist margin”, a boundary that separates rainy tropical regions from dry subtropical regions on Earth. We demonstrate that various weather systems cause the moist margin to shift from day to day, influencing where heavy precipitation occurs. Particular attention is called to cases where the moist margin moves far poleward, resulting in extreme rainfall in otherwise dry locations.
