Reactions of Cl3SnR1H with Na2E (E = Se, Te; R1 = C2H4COO) in liquid ammonia afforded the salts of an anionic defect heterocubane, [(RSn)3Se4]− (R = R1 and R1H) or an ∞1[(R1Sn)2Te32−] anionic polymer, respectively. Although a reaction using a 1:1.5 ratio of Cl3SnR1H:Na2S·9H2O in acetone/water produced a compound containing [(R1Sn)3S4]2−, a 1:2 ratio leads to the formation of ∞1[(R1Sn)2S32−], isostructural to the homologous Te species.
