This dataset provides simulated star fields using the empirical point-spread functions (ePSFs) for Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Camera 3, Infrared channel (WFC3/IR). The simulated images are supplied in a standard FITS format with a table extension. The dataset contains the following files. README.md simulated_WFC3IR_F105W.fits simulated_WFC3IR_F110W.fits simulated_WFC3IR_F125W.fits simulated_WFC3IR_F140W.fits simulated_WFC3IR_F160W.fits thumbnail.pdf Stars are randomly generated within the field of view. The magnitudes of the stars are randomly sampled from an exponential distribution. The star fields are generated for 5 filters with the same star catalog. The images are not affected by noise. Detailed descriptions are found in README.md. This work utilized the empirical point-spread functions (ePSFs) provided by the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) [1]. This work made use of Astropy: a community-developed core Python package and an ecosystem of tools and resources for astronomy (Astropy Collaboration, 2013, 2018, 2022). This work made use of Photutils, an Astropy package for detection and photometry of astronomical sources (Bradley et al. 2024).
