This project is to reconstruct the diel activity pattern of ancestral birds. The retinal transcriptome sequencing was conducted for ostrich (Struthio camelus) and emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae). And the adaptive evolution of phototransduction genes was analyzed in the context of reptile phylogeny, and the diel activity pattern of the common ancestors of living birds was reconstructed based on a molecular phyloecological approach.
