Type 4 RSs (RS4) are chemically modified starches not normally found in nature but have become a popular food additive as their addition increases fiber content, as defined by the FDA. To explore the effects of feeding on the microbiome and gene expression, we fed different levels of Versifibe 1490TM, a phosphorylated and cross-linked potato starch, to mice and looked for changes in the cecal microbiota and SCFA production and gene expression in the cecum and colon.
