资源简介:
This dataset contains the underway data from Voyage 1 1995-96 (ABSTAIN) of the Aurora Australis. This was a manned marine science voyage. DLS and NoQalms data types were logged at 10-second intervals. The observations were taken along the WOCE SR3 line and the FORMEX square, between July and September 1995.CTD and ADCP data were also obtained on a run from Hobart to the ice edge and back. From the voyage leader's report:Voyage one of the RSV Aurora Australis for the 1995-96 season was the first true winter voyage of an Australian ship into the Antarctic seasonal sea ice zone. The voyage left Hobart on 17 July and returned on 2 September 1995.Enroute to the sea ice, the vessel carried out a detailed hydrographic survey along the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) SR3 transect between Tasmania and Antarctica. This was the fifth of six planned occupations of this section, and the first time that hydrographic data of a suitable quality for oceanographic work have been obtained south of Tasmania during winter. The vessel spent 4 weeks within the sea ice (from 30 July to 26 August). During this period a comprehensive and coordinated oceanographic and glaciological study was undertaken of the processes of ice growth, air-sea energy exchange, and water mass formation off East Antarctica during winter. A range of other scientific programs were also conducted during the voyage. All objectives of the voyage were completely achieved. The data collected on the voyage provide a substantial body of new information on the Southern Ocean transport of heat, freshwater and other biogeochemical properties south of Australia during winter, and on the processes determining the nature of sea ice and its interaction with the ocean and atmosphere.
