Homoploid hybrid speciation in a marine pelagic fish
Homoploid hybrid speciation (HHS) is an enigmatic evolutionary process where new species arise through hybridization of divergent lineages without changes in chromosome number. Although increasingly d

Comparative transcriptomics of sympatric species of coral reef fishes (genus: Haemulon)
Three sympatric species of Caribbean grunts (H. flavolineatum, H. carbonarium and H. macrostomum) were collected while SCUBA diving. RNA was extracted from livers, and the transcriptomes were assemble

After being on the brink of extinction in the late 1960s, peninsular Italian wolves rebounded and recolonized most of the peninsula. Despite that, the consequences of the historical bottleneck on their genomic make-up is still lacking. We sequenced whole genomes of thirteen individuals and conducted population genomics analyses, including a comparison with wolves from two highly-inbred wolf populations. Our findings indicate that the peninsular Italian wolf population is still susceptible to bottleneck legacies, which could lead to local inbreeding depression in case of population reduction or fragmentations.
Preserving genetic diversity and adaptive potential while avoiding inbreeding depression is crucial for the long-term conservation of natural populations. Despite demographic increases, traces of past
