NRS-19136 | Register of Improvement Leases [Wagga Wagga Lands Office]

This register contains a summary record of all Improvement Leases in the Land District of Wagga Wagga, kept by the Wagga Wagga Lands Office.This form of lease was an introduction of the Crown Lands Act of 1895. The lands which could be taken up were comprised of scrub and inferior land in any division. They were disposed of either by auction or tender, and in no case could the area of a lease exceed 20,480 acres. The term of a lease was twenty eight years. The provisions made for the improvement of the land varied according to the circumstanced of each case. Residence on the land was not compulsory.The register records information such as the number of the lease, the name and address of the leasee, and if transferred, the name and address of the transferee, date of the transfer and registration number of papers relating to the transfer, particulars of the division, land district, county and parish, also general particulars relating to the lease, details of any improvements, including character and value, and if appraised by the Board, the particulars of the appraisement, conditions of the lease, references to the inspector, and registration number of papers, correspondence etcetera.
