The synthesis of fluorescent nanoparticles has many potential applications in bio-imaging for enhanced and safer cell marking. Herein, two Stöber synthesis pathways were explored to incorporate fluorescein and rhodamine B in silica nanoparticles. Their luminescence properties were studied and probed with fluorescence spectroscopy. Mixed results were obtained. Simultaneous synthesis of nanoparticles and addition of fluorescent molecules seems to be the more promising pathway.
