Forty-six surface water samples from 7 plateau lakes with a salinity gradient of 0.8-344 g/L were collected, in order to: (1) investigate the prokaryotic community composition and diversity using Illumina MiSeq sequencing method of 16S rRNA gene amplicons; (2) reveal the distribution patterns of prokaryotic community composition both within individual clades and across the entire prokaryotic communities along a gradient of salinity and other physiochemical variables; (3) explore the adaptive ability of some taxonomic clades from a freshwater lake, Lake Keluke, to saline water in a mesosaline lake, Lake Tuosu.
