RNA-seq of asymptomatic ASBVd-infected avocado nursery trees

Avocado sunblotch viroid (ASBVd) is the causal agent of avocado sunblotch disease - characterised by the formation of distinct chlorotic lesions on fruits, leaves and stems of infected trees. Infection by this viroid may also remain asymptomatic for extended periods of time, though symptomless carrier trees are associated with decreased fruit yield, leading to economic implications for growers. The interaction between ASBVd and avocado hosts is poorly understood. To this end, we used RNA sequencing to elucidate the transcriptomic response of asymptomatic avocado nursery trees to ASBVd infection.
