Whole genome sequences for the Antibiotic Resistance Isolate Bank Neisseria species panel

Emergence of antibiotic resistance in pathogenic bacteria presents a key clinical challenge for the successful treatment of infections and is a global threat to public health. While resistance can arise via de novo mutations in pathogens, resistance can also be horizontally transferred from environmental, animal, or human-associated microbial communities. Here, we sequence the genomes of several non-pathogenic species of Neisseria that can be utilized as a resource for predicting resistance encoding mutations that may be able to be transferred via HGT to the pathogenic Neisseria.
