This article analyzes the theoretical and practical foundations for developing students’ media and information literacy in general education schools. In particular, it highlights the integration of media literacy competencies within the framework of the National Curriculum, the mechanisms for their formation across different subjects, and relevant methodological approaches. The study also substantiates the importance of developing students’ skills in critical thinking, information analysis, distinguishing between fake and reliable information, and ensuring information security. International experience—especially practices of media education in developed countries—is reviewed, and priority directions for improving the national education system are identified. Issues related to copyright, information culture, and safe behavior in the digital environment are also comprehensively examined.
