D10 (µm) was untransformed. Total nitrogen (µmol l−1), total phosphorus (µmol l−1), D50 (µm) and D90 (µm) were logarithmically transformed. Light attenuation (m−1) was reciprocally transformed.Total phosphorus, D50 and D90 were eliminated from the model by the selection procedure. Thus, only sediment grain size D10 and surface water total nitrogen were included to describe the dependent variable light attenuation.
