Promoting Transparent and Scalable Decision-Making with IS Governance Framework: An Blockchain Approach

Background: Although centralized governance promotes stakeholder involvement in digital platforms. Nevertheless, the growth of digital ecosystem platform has delivered some challenges issues in scalability and accountability. The use of blockchain technology such as Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAO), deliver some potential improvements in IS governance architecture.

Objective: The study aims to design and assess an IS governance framework that allows to improve transparency, participation, and scalability in governance-related aspects of digital platforms, based on blockchain technology.

Methods: The article applies a design science research approach by incorporating smart contracts, token-based voting, decentralized identity, blockchain audit trails and governance analytics. The framework evaluates data generated simulation and comparison to a centralized governance baseline across three stakeholder-scale scenarios that involve 100, 500, and 1,000 participants. The framework promotes governance efficiency, transparency, participation, scalability, trust, support and risk governance.

Results: The framework allows stakeholders’ participation increases from 31.0% to 58%, 26.4% to 63.2%, and 21.8% to 67.5%, with three scenarios of decision-making times reduced by 44.6%, 54.3%, and 58.3%. The simulation shows governance baseline score improved to 4.25 from previous 2.52.

Conclusion: The study shows potential use of blockchain governance as IS architecture, allows to support improvement of transparency, scalability and participation, along with integrative support of trust. The framework validation is carried out through a blockchain testnet and recommended for further IS governance study.
