Strategies to support safe wandering in care homes for older adults – what works, for whom, and in which circumstances?: A realist synthesis - Extraction files

We undertook a realist review to examine which strategies for supporting safe wandering among care home residents work for whom, in which circumstances. We conducted initial scoping searches to identify relevant literature and theory, and developed context, mechanism, outcome configurations (CMOCs) from the contents of the papers identified. We refined the long list of CMOCs into 11 initial programme theories, 7 of which we prioritised through stakeholder involvement. We searched databases, full texts (via Scite and Litsense), grey literature, and citations of key papers, undertook screening of titles, abstracts and full texts, and synthesised information on links between contexts, mechanisms and outcomes relevant to the 7 prioritised initial programme theories. We synthesised the data into an overarching programme theory and 5 refined programme theories. The realist review findings will be published in an academic journal. The data deposited here detail the data extraction undertaken.
