Genome sequencing of Bos indicus

Bos indicus is a domestic cattle species having diverse indigenous breeds present in India. De novo and reference-based genome assemblies of Bos indicus breeds and variety (Kasargod Dwarf, Kasargod Kapila, Vechur, and Ongole) provide insights into the distinctive characteristics of the key Indian cattle breeds. This will help in the disease management, health, and conservation efforts of these native breeds, which have better sustenance and quality of milk compared to the western varieties.
