Corn Intercropped with Alfalfa

The purpose of this study was to analyze the transcriptome of Zea mays L. (corn) and Medicago sativa L. (alfalfa) during intercropping. Corn and alfalfa were planted and grown in the summer of 2020 at Hickson (H) and Prosper (P), ND as a random complete block design. Each location had 5 treatments of various monocrops and intercrops: 1) monocrop of alfalfa, 2) monocrop of corn row planted spaced at 76cm(30in), 3) corn row planted spaced at 152cm (60in) intercropped with alfalfa, 4) monocrop of corn row planted spaced at 76cm (30in), and 5) corn row planted spaced at152cm (60in) intercropped with alfalfa. Root and leaf tissues was collected 8 weeks after the planting date.
