Lake sediment microbial community data across pH gradient

We aimed to characterize the bacterial and archaeal community composition in the sediment of 22 lakes using 16S rRNA sequencing. We used the data as predictors to understand the influence of sediment microbial community composition on sediment methane production responses to organic matter additions in experimental microcosms. Lake sediment microbial communities mediate carbon diagenesis, and understanding of the variation in microbial community composition can help inform ecosystem responses to changing environmental conditions.
