The present bioproject contains 66 saliva samples obtained from subjects with different periodontal health conditions, which were analysed by amplifying and sequencing the V1-V3 16S rRNA gene region using an Illumina MiSeq instrument.The experiment consisted of 28 periodontally healthy and 38 periodontitis patients. Among the latter, 4 were classified as moderate and 34 as severe. The periodontitis cases were diagnosed according to the classification of Page and Eke (J Periodontol. 2007; 78:1387-99). The attached metadata table contains information regarding the following variables for each participant: health condition, periodontitis type (if applicable), periodontitis severity (if applicable), sample type, saliva type, paired design, therapy, sample time after the diagnosis, age, sex, ethnicity, systemic condition, smoking habit (including number of cigarettes/day and months smoking), and clinical parameters (total number of teeth, plaque index, bleeding on probing, probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level).The study subjects were aged between 26 and 72 years old, 31 of them were males and 35 females, and there were 37 non-smokers and 29 smokers. All individuals were systemically healthy and Caucasian.Also 3 mock samples named HM276, HM277, and D6303, were included to be used as quality control of sequences.
