A synoptic spectral study of the SMC X-ray SNR population

This proposal entails a coherent spectral study of all identified bright XraySNRs in the SMC. Three pointings are proposed covering 10 out of 13 identifiedremnants. Two of the remaining sources can be added from a collaboration withthe RGS consortium while the last one can be obtained serendipitously from anSMC X3 observation. Observing times have been chosen such that the weakestsources still provide 5000 counts in EPIC, sufficient for good quality Xrayspectra. Moreover, 4 of the brightest remnants have an angular extent of 3arcmin, which allows XMM adequate spatially resolved spectroscopy. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
