VPRS 16648 Journal, Thomas Harris, Coranderrk Station

This series consists of a slim journal maintained by Thomas Harris at the Coranderrk Station in the course of his duties. Thomas Harris lived and worked at the Station as an assistant, farm hand and finally as farm overseer. It is believed that he commenced working there from its establishment in 1863 until at least 1883 when he was mentioned in Annual Reports of the Board for the Protection of Aborigines for the final time.Contents of this journal include:- notes about the movements of Aboriginal residents and Corandeek staff- various listings of cattle killed at the Station- listings about the distribution of (cattle?) hides, and- information about stores delivered and distributed at Coranderrk.Included within the pages of the journal is a photograph of what is thought to be Badger's Creek as well as a negative of the image made by PROV.This journal spans only a small time of Harris' employment at the station, however, the existence of additional journals are unknown. The sole volume in PROV custody (as at the start of 2011) was purchased at Christies' auction house in April 2000.
