This qualitative study explores how patients with chronic illness experience therapeutic touch from nurses during hospitalization. Therapeutic touch is a form of nonverbal communication that can provide comfort and build the nurse–patient relationship, but patients’ views are not well understood. Eight patients were interviewed using a descriptive qualitative approach. Four main themes emerged: how touch was given, its emotional and physical effects, the appropriateness of timing, and cultural or religious influences. Most patients felt therapeutic touch was calming and made them feel cared for, although some felt uncomfortable due to cultural beliefs. The study highlights the importance of using therapeutic touch carefully and with cultural sensitivity.
