Vitamin C deficiency in adult hospitalised patients

This thesis establishes vitamin C deficiency (VCD) as a clinically important but under-recognised nutrition issue in adult hospital patients in high-income countries. VCD has long since been proposed to be a condition of historical interest. Yet findings of this thesis reveal that almost 1 in 4 adult hospital patients have VCD in this setting, and VCD status is associated with functional decline in adult patients and signs and symptoms of scurvy. Urgent changes to clinical practice are required to prevent such an easily treatable disease in adult hospital patients.
